Is the Chinese Communist Party out to get us?
Breitbart.com has been running a series about various US-roiling nastiness perpetrated or abetted by the Chinese party-state, and there’s enough information to write a book. In fact, it is a book: Blood Money: Why the Powerful Turn a Blind Eye While China Kills Americans by Peter Schweizer, a journalist for Breitbart.
Breitbart’s latest article on Schweizer’s findings, penned by Kristina Wong, pertains to China’s involvement in smash-and-burn rioting in the United States over the past several years. Dictator Xi Jinping and his fellow CCP propagandists may talk a lot about shared happy global future and how the world is surely big enough for both China and America, but it does indeed look as if China is trying to cause trouble for us!
Seemingly spontaneous
The book argues that “a number of seemingly spontaneous violent protests and riots by far-left activists against police brutality over the past decade in America were organized by groups backed and funded by Beijing.”
One of these groups is the “secretive pro-Beijing” Freedom Road Socialist Organization.
Protests and rioting erupted after a series of high-profile cases, including the deaths of black teens Trayvon Martin in Florida in 2012 and Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014. One of the key organizers of protests in Ferguson was Montague Simmons, who was the leader of the Organization for Black Struggle (OBS) in St. Louis. He would later divulge during a presentation that he had brought some 10,000 out-of-state activists to participate in the protest.
Simmons was also reportedly a member of Liberation Road, an offshoot of FRSO. Left-wing author Max Elbaum wrote the definitive history of the radical movement, in which he said FRSO has a long history of taking “their cues from Beijing.”
Schweizer writes that beginning with Ferguson, FRSO activists played an important role in the next half decade in pushing protests toward violence.
FRSO’s chumminess with the Chinese Communist Party isn’t a secret. In 2022, the organization proudly suppurated its support for the Party:
Freedom Road Socialist Organization congratulates the leadership of the Communist Party of China, with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, for the great successes achieved at the 20th National Congress…. Socialist China is an example to oppressed people everywhere who yearn for a better future. Again, congratulations on a successful 20th Congress. The CPC is truly a great political party that has proven its ability to do great things. Long live the Communist Party of China!
We also learn that Chinese intelligence professionals from the People’s Liberation Army “landed at the Chinese Consulate in Houston, Texas, sometime in the first half of 2020, posing as academics under so-called J-1 research visas and not disclosing their affiliation with the Chinese military.” These PLA agents worked with technicians from the Chinese technology company Huawei to target Americans that “they hoped would get involved with at least the peaceful protests, if not the violent riots.”
At the same time, the operatives posted videos on CCP propaganda outlet TikTok “instructing Americans how to organize protests and riots, according to Schweizer.”
Song of Singham
The article also touches on the pro-CCP leanings and ties of other violent leftist groups. These groups are often funded by billionaire Neville Roy Singham, whose “ties to the [Chinese] regime are so substantial that he was reportedly invited to attend the Chinese Communist Party Congress,” according to Schweizer. (The New York Times has published an expose of Singham’s vicious pro-CCP philanthropy.)
It’s hard to know exactly how much the CCP has proximately enabled the violence in American streets. Our homegrown commie hooligan types are always raring to go at the drop of a hat anyway.
But they and Red China are certainly on the same team. And the organizers need money to move people and stuff around and to buy matches and gasoline to burn things, money that they often get from CCP lackey Singham. Less proximately, the enabling ideas and tactics deployed here and in China go back to many of the same statist and collectivist thug-lucubrators, including Marx and Mao.
